LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Lauryn Hill and Cher are not dead. Lauryn Hill fake death reports today come hours after false claims reported that Cher had died. Hill and Cher are both victims of far different erroneous claims today.
Lauryn Hill (being incorrectly spelled on Twitter today as “Lauren Hill”) was the victim of a false retweet that was sent Friday to confuse fans. A notable Hip-hop music sharing website, World Star Hip-Hop, does not have the Twitter account by the same name. But when fans began seeing a retweet from “@worldstarhiphop” Friday, they believed it had been sent by the popular website. It hadn’t.
On Friday, a fake retweet was virally sent on Twitter that read as follows. “RT @WORLDSTARHIPHOP Former Member of The Fugees Lauryn Hill Has passed Away this morning in her New York apt. At 6:53 This Morning”. Readers of the tweeter message clearly confused the Twitter account to be that of the popular social video site.
In fact, a quick perusal shows that neither Twitter account (worldstarhiphop nor worldstar) even sent the message that Hill had died. The message was fabricated by a third party.
Fans today about both irate and confused. Just hours earlier they battled the same confusion when Kim Kardashian accidentally killed off Cher on Twitter as well. Last night, Kardashian tweeted “Did I just hear that Cher has passed away? Is this real? OMG.”
Kardashian has believed a fake Cher post as true. So Kim posted to her millions of followers her belief that the obviously false report was true.
